A fully portable central field screener, for routine visual field screening of the retina.  Supra-threshold analysis from 5 to 25 degrees of the visual field. Patient and user friendly and ideal for domiciliary application, with approximately 40% of South African optometrists using the Optoscan, and wide application by practitioners in the UK, USA, India, Australia and elsewhere.

Testimonials what experts have to say about the Optoscan Scanner 'Plus'

Several publications discuss the advantages of visual field analysis as an integral part of routine eye examinations. This equipment must be capable of performing rapid screening and should have the ability to provide more detailed quantitative information through additional test procedures. Multiple stimulus supra-threshold static screening is a well established technique and is the principle of operation of the Optoscan ‘Plus’. The instrument can perform a primary screening of the central visual field in under two minutes per eye, in addition to more detailed evaluation of defects.

The Optoscan ‘Plus’ is a fully portable primary field screener and can also be used to perform more in-depth evaluation of a scotoma. It is a supra-threshold instrument but ideal for routine screening. Features include a check for eye fixation on the central target; automatic power saving; and the control unit can also be optionally connected to a personal computer for test and patient record keeping. A software package, called 'SoftScan' is supplied on CD to facilitate this.

A
total of 74 LED's are displayed to the patient in 20 asymmetric patterns. Each of the patterns, when selected by the operator, displays a different array of stimuli. The light stimuli are positioned at strategic positions between 5 and 25 degrees of the visual field. The intensity of the stimuli increases towards the periphery to compensate for the normal gradient of sensitivity across the retina. The patient is required to fixate the eye being tested on a central yellow stimulus, or a light cross-hair. A stimulus is also positioned within each of the optic nerve blind areas. These enable the operator to ascertain whether the patient is fixating correctly on the central target.

T
he patient viewing unit is either mounted in an adjustable table stand or held up to the eye by the patient. Test lenses may be fitted to the eyepiece in order to correct for presbyopia or astigmatism. An on-board memory is used to record the unseen stimuli which can be recalled at any time during or at the conclusion of the test.    The SoftScan program facilitates the accurate keeping of both patient details and test records.

The Optoscan ‘Plus’ is the most affordable supra-threshold field screener available and is both patient and user friendly. It is extremely accurate in the detection of scotoma indicating glaucoma, diabetes and other pathology.
